An open-agency is different from becoming a homebased travel agent.

An open-agency is different form becoming a homebased travel agent.

A good idea may be to start as a agent first and get experience before opening a store.

BUT

If you are a owner or manager of an ARC-accredited agency, two years of experience is required.

In order to get an ARc card, you must go through CAS training.

You will also need to meet ARC's requirements on section 80 of their charter. www.arccorp.com

Also check, "How do I apply for ARC accreditation?"
http://accreditation.arccorp.com.

IATAN makes a distinction between agencies that represent airline carriers and those that act as a "travel sales intermediary(a go between)."

This means they do not issue the tickets themselves but sell as a go between(a conduit)for the airline, hotel, cruises, etc, and the customer.

The majority being "travel sales intermediaries".

If you own a small homebase agency,TSI, you must provide proof of $10,000 investment in the travel business.

You must provide statements from your bank, industry contacts and whatever proof you have that your business is legitimate. Ex.(telephone listing, insurance, etc.)

For basic requirements: www.iatan.org After accreditation, then you will be able to apply for ID cards (which may give you certain allowances).
