This page shows you how to get a passport and what I did to get one.

This page shows you how to get a passport and what I did to get one.

Because of my passport I was able to finally travel outside the U.S

Well I did go to the Bahamas twice but then I only needed to show my birth certificate with a raised seal and a picture Id.

What surprised me was how quickly the it arrived.

If I remember correctly the State website(Travel.State.Gov) said it would take around 4-6 weeks for me to receive them.

Thankfully the trip was far enough away that even if there was a slight delay, it would not be affected.

I wasn't comfortable sending my original birth certificate which was one of the requiremnts because I didn't want it to get lost in the mail and I did not know when I would get it back.

Despite that, the excitement of finally having a it washed away that concern.

I almost made a mistake that would have definetly delayed it. I forgot to sign my name and date on the bottom of the application.

It was a good thing I didn't forget to leave a contact number. Someone contacted me from the post office so that I could perform that task.

Expecting it to take a few weeks,I forgot about the application. Before I knew it,I think maybe about a week or so it was in my mailbox. Amazing!

Now the traveling was ON!

I even received my birth certificate back.Lol

The one disappointing thing about this situation was when we actually traveled and presented the document to the airline and when we got to Mexico,I thought they would stamp it like I saw on television. I envisioned all the different countries I would travel to and have it covered with the stamps of those places. I guess they don't do that anymore.

* As a caution,I learned from my Pre-paid legal Identity Theft package that there are ways for people with the right equipment to steal your information off of your document and credit/debit cards.

Even if your suitcase is closed or your wallet is in your pocket or bag. It doesn't have to be opened or exposed.

The reason is (RFID)radio frequency identification. A chip placed in the passport or credit/debit card.

It is best to invest in a rfid-blocking passport case or wallet that jams unintentional reception or any accidental disclosure of your identity.

Here are some online websites that you can look at to purchase these items.

ID Stronghold

Pricegrabber

Difrwear

Or type in RFID products in your search engine.

You can also check out State.Gov website to find out more info pn RFID.

The State.Gov website will give you instructions on how to get a passport.
