This section will talk about home office organization.

For a travel agent, being organized is of utmost importance.

It is the difference between a smooth transaction and a sale ORlosing your customer and your reputation.

According to www.duncanresource.com " A moderately disorganized person loses about two hours every day due to disorder. If your income is $100,000 per year, based on a 40 hour work week. You are going to cost your company $25,000 a year. When you enlist the help of others to help you find something, the cost goes up."

"If an income is $25,000/yr. your company loses $6,000, $40,000/yr. your company loses $10,000, $50,000/yr. your company loses $12,600, $125,000/yr. your company loses $32,000."

Whether it is a big corporation or your individual travel business, a disorganized operation is sure to lose you business. (And maybe someones private information.)

Here are some things you can do to keep your home travel business running efficiently and successful.

"Create a good logical filing system." 1. Create main, broad categories(use nouns).

2."Sort each main category" (as in an outline). Keep like subjects together(alphabetize with categories). Use the A-Z system only when it is a vendor, client-only file or something similar.

3."Test your system to see if others can find what they need."

4."Create a simple index, and leave it in front of the file drawer."(Do this especially if others have to access your files and if they are large reference files.)

5. "Purge often! STOP KEEPING JUNK!"

"Creating a computer filing system." for Windows(R)
