As far travel agents are concerned airfare not always fair when it comes to paying commissions.

Airfare not always fair when it comes to paying commissions to travel agents.

With the shrinking or nonexistent commission on airfare, it's time to forget about them(if you haven't already)and concentrate on hotels.

Hotels can make up for the lack of commission from other areas of travel. If your clients book a resort,(Bed and Breakfast) or a downtown hotel in say New York, bookings like these can go as high as $300 or $400 a night.

What if they book a six or seven night stay at one of these places? You might not be able to count the commission.

One way to lose that great fantastic commission quickly is to not know how to properly book a hotel room.

Some of the important criteria needed to book a hotel properly ?

What day and time your clients want to go and come back.

Where is the hotel? What state, city. A person may say they are landing in Philly but wants a hotel in the Poconos. You need to know exactly where your client wants to go. (Ask questions!)

How many rooms do they want? Single, multiple? Find out who's going to stay in each room. Prices are different for each.

Are there any children traveling with them? Find out the age of each child. Especially minors. There are many hotels that offer kids eat or stay free specials.

The price? How much does it cost? (Ask questions). Get a price range(how high is the client willing to pay for a room?)

Get credit card information.Usually that is how a client will make a payment. A hotel will ask for a credit card number to secure or hold a reservation. This means that the hotel will charge the room to the card even if the client doesn't show.

If you and your client decide to go this route, then you'll need the name on the card exactly the way it is on the card. The card number, expiration date and maybe the billing address with telephone number.

These are just the basics on how airfare not always fair. For more comprehensive information go to
