These are the rules ASTA expects travel agents to abide by.
The rules ASTA (American Society of Travel Agents) set for all travel agents (home based included) are as follows.
1."Be factual and accurate when providing information about their
services and the services of any firm they represent. They will not use misleading or deceptive practices which could be damaging to the consumer or the travel industry."
2."All ASTA members shall remit any undisputed funds under their control within the specified time limit. Reasons for any delay in providing funds qwill be commuicated to the claimant in a timely manner."
3."All ASTA members will provide complete details about terms and conditions of any travel service, including, but not limited to cancellation and service fee policies, prior to non refundable payment being accepted for the booking."
4."All ASTA members will not make use of improperly obtained client list or other confidential data obtained from agency personel's former employees."
5."All members will cooperate with any inquiry conducted by ASTA to resolve any dispute involving consumers and or another member."
6."All members will promptly respond to their client's complaints. If the complaint cannot be resolved by the agency and/or client, it should be referred in writing to ASTA's consumer affairs department."
7.All members shall consider every transaction for a client as a confidential matter and not disclose any information without permission of the client, unless such disclosure is required by law."
8.All members operating tours shall provide all components as specified in their brochure or written confirmation or provide alternate services of equal or greater value, or appropriate compensation."
9."Members operating tours shall promptly advise the agent or client who reserved the space, of any change in itinerary,services,features, and/or price. If substantial changes are made that are within the control of the operator, the client shall be offered the opportunity to cancel without penalty."
10."Members shall stand behind any program in which their names and/or logos are used with their permission for advertising or promoting travel."
11."Members will not falsely represent a person's affiliation with their firm."
Following these rules and regulations will show that you are a person of integrity. If you do not comply with these principles, you may be subject to disciplinary action according to ASTA.
